The Process behind making such an expensive Red Wine

Wine is produced by the alcoholic fermentation of freshly harvested grape juice. Grapes naturally have the most important things needed for the fermentation process -- sugar and yeast .

how to make red wine

The juice of black grapes undergoes fermentation with the skin to make Red wine.

1.Crushing and destemming : Black grape are passed through a mechanical de-stemmer-crusher to remove the stems and crack the grapes so as to release the juice . The juice, pulp , steam ,and skins now this is called ''MUST''. must is transferred to a fermentation tank

2. Fermentation : The must undergoes fermentation for up to 14 days. The yeast slowly convert the grapes sugar to alcohol. the fermenting juice obtains the colour from the skin of the grapes which is allowed to remain in contact with the must during the fermentation .

3. Pressing : the juice now termed as wine is separated from the skins and stems by passing it  through a press .

4. Ageing : The wine is transferred to oak barrels for ageing. During ageing process, the wine continues to ferment and develop. the yeast and the residue settle to the bottom of the barrel and form sediment called ''Lees"". wine is separated from the lees by transferring the wine to clean casks. this process is called ''racking''.

5. Filtration and fining :  Wines required clarification as they are cloudy and contain very fine particles. the clarification is obtained by filtration and fining.

6. Blending wines:   Blending is the process of mixing wines of different years, age, grapes, and regions to make either a new wine with a unique flavour, or maintain consistency in quality.

7. Bottling wine : After blending the wines are bottled in sterilized bottles. the wine bottle is slowly filled and topped with either nitrogen or carbon dioxide to displace any oxygen. the bottle is then capped with a traditional treated cork or modern screw cap. Next the bottle are labelled and they are sent for further bottle ageing or straight to the dealer.
